The Annual Summer Jazz Series at Villa Christina
2007 marks the fourth year that The Summer Jazz Series at Villa Christina has been providing local audiences with the best free jazz in the city. On select Sunday’s beginning in May or June, Villa Christina opens up their restaurant and immaculately groomed gardens to music lovers for a day of munching, mingling and music.
The Summer Jazz Series at Villa Christina grew out of a love for music, and specifically live jazz. Being music lovers ourselves, we wanted to invite some of the top jazz bands to play in the gardens and entertain our guests. So, in May, 2004, we kicked off The Summer Jazz Series at Villa Christina. We hoped that we would get a decent crowd for the fist concert, and build from there. To our delight, we had almost 1,000 people show up, and each concert has gotten bigger and bigger. Attendees for the 2006 series, which has now grown to 5 concerts, have averaged 2500 people per concert.
The concept was simple; allow music lovers the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life with a relaxing getaway to Villa Christina’s secluded oasis of calm. Offer exquisite food and a variety of refreshing beverages at a reasonable price. Above all, we wanted everyone to have a great time. So in addition to top-notch live entertainment, great food and beverages, we invited select exhibitors such as Smooth Jazz 107.5 Radio Station, Atlantan Magazine, Day Spas, Artists, Designers, Hot Air Balloon, Moonwalk for the kids and more to add to the experience.
Music is one of life’s greatest pleasures. A day at Villa Christina for one of our free concerts is one of the best events our city has to offer. Join us again in 2008 on June 22, July 20, August 17, and September 21.

Atlanta Workshop Players
The Atlanta Workshop Players was founded in 1981 by Stallings. Motivated by the lack of roles for kids, Stallings and her students created AWP as an outlet for their talents. Her goal in building the company began with a genuine desire to share the life-enhancing power of the performing arts with children of all ages. Stallings recognized that a positive, nurturing, non-competitive environment is crucial for the children's development and witnessed the way their confidence soared when their creative sparks were kindled and encouraged. Most impressively, over the last 25 years, AWP productions have been seen by over a million audience members. Additionally, has been instrumental in developing and launching the careers of countless successful performers whose credits include leading roles on Broadway and series regulars & recurring characters on: AMERICAN IDOL, THIRD WATCH, CSI , STEP BY STEP, LIFE AS WE KNOW IT, THAT'S SO RAVEN, ZOEY 101, SIGNIFICANT OTHERS, THE BEDFORD DIARIES, FEED YOUR MIND, VERONICA MARS, DEEP SPACE 9 and more. Londzell’s is open seven nights a week for dinner and live entertainment and books local and national jazz and blues artists. The menu features a range of “Southern inspired comfort foods” says Londzell, such as Low Country Shrimp and Grits, savory Veal Meatloaf and Zell’s Black and Blues Burger. Wash it down with Londzell’s Blues Martini: Blue Curacao, Vodka, pineapple and cranberry juice. Make sure to save room for one of our decadent desserts including the ultra rich turtle cheesecake.

Utopia Martini & Tapas Lounge
Atlanta, a city that has arrived, celebrates another arrival: Utopia Martini & Tapas Lounge. It’s hard to imagine a more magnificently decorated restaurant for a truly memorable meal. Located on Marietta Street in the vibrant new area known as Midtown West, Utopia is open for dinner daily.
Donny and La Mui, the husband and wife team behind Utopia are new to Midtown but not to the restaurant business. Donny, raised in the restaurant industry under the tutelage of his parents, opened his first restaurant, Blue Grotto, first in Sandy Springs in 2004 and later in Johns Creek in 2006. La, one of 12 children realized early on that she was creative and had an eye for design. After graduating from the University of Georgia with her interior decorating degree she traveled the world on her quest to study the colors, fabrics, architecture and design of various cultures. The Mui’s vision for Utopia was “an ideal, perfect place where all cultures can co-exist.” The sleek interior boasts a classic, contemporary space that is vibrant in color yet comfortable in design. “Our goal,” states La, “is to constantly evolve and change, so we have incorporated a rotating gallery of original wall hangings, sculptures, mosaics and other art forms throughout the restaurant. We want our guests to consider Utopia a playground for all of their senses.”
Utopia offers a menu that has something for everyone – whether you’re looking for a quick, yet fulfilling lunch buffet brimming with sushi, salads, fajitas and more, a romantic fondue dinner for two, or a late night bite and cold beverage, Utopia has a menu that is cross-cultural and bursting with flavor. Specialty items include the pistachio crusted fried shrimp served with a chilled cucumber and sweet pepper salad, stuffed poblano peppers, grilled filet mignon, roasted figs and decadent desserts including the fried banana and vanilla bean sundae.
The fully stocked, “Jetson” inspired bar, complete with male and female styled bar stools should not be missed. Enjoy an array of jewel-toned martinis that are a treat to the eye and the palate. Can’t decide on the Blue Crush, Pink Diamond or Black Orchid? No problem. You can order a flight of three samples and enjoy them all. There is also an extensive wine and beer selection.
Located on the lower level of Utopia is Shangri-La, a unique, sleek and uber-chic event space that is perfect for a variety of celebrations including rehearsal dinners, meetings, fashion shows, new product launches and more. Cozy and refined, Shangri-La’s arrangement of plush red sofas and black chairs is perfect for private parties. The space can hold 80 to 90 people comfortably and can accommodate live bands or a DJ to suit the occasion.
Utopia is open for dinner Monday through Thursday from 5:00 pm -11:00 pm, Friday and Saturday 5:00 pm-midnight. The lounge, open daily, stays open until 3:00 am Friday and Saturday. Utopia is conveniently located at 840 Marietta street in Atlanta.
